Odor receptors discovered in lungs

Your nose is not the only organ in your body that can sense cigarette smoke wafting through the air. Scientists at WUSTL have shown that your lungs have odor receptors as well. They may trigger you to cough to rid your body of offending substances.

‘Topping out’ ceremony held for The Lofts of Washington University​

A “topping out” ceremony was held Jan. 16 marking the final steel panel being raised and put into place on The Lofts of Washington University, WUSTL’s $80 million retail and student apartment complex under construction in the Delmar Loop. Construction of the first phase of the project is on target to be completed in July, with students and retailers moving in this August.

Mouse study shows potential for gene therapy in Alport syndrome, an inherited kidney disease

A School of Medicine study in mice suggests that gene therapy may one day be a viable treatment for Alport syndrome, an inherited disease that leads to kidney failure.

See ‘The Wonder Bread Years’ this weekend

Donate blood at drive Tuesday

The next university-wide blood drive will be Tuesday, Jan. 28, at seven locations throughout WUSTL. All students, staff and faculty are encouraged to participate. The region’s blood supply has been especially hard-hit due to the recent wintry weather.
